Intake of carotene to lung forever "young"

Xinhua Xinhua Beijing April 2, a new study by French scientists have shown that if β-carotene in their blood higher level, their lung function with age growth remain "younger" state. The study also found that, β-carotene and vitamin E may be able to provide some protection of the lungs of smokers.

French Institute of Health and Medical Armelle Guenego and others in the new issue of "Chest" published bi-monthly in a report that they measured the 1194 aged 20 to 44-year-old adult lung function, as well as their blood vitamin A, vitamin E and β-carotene content. The results showed that in a period of 8 years of the study period, those in the blood with higher levels of β-carotene, their lung function degraded to a lesser extent. The study also found that smoking 20 cigarettes a day for at least among those who smoke, those in the blood β-carotene and vitamin E people with higher levels of lung function degraded more slowly.



Guenego pointed out that in natural circumstances, the person's lung function is usually started from nearly 30 at the age of decay, but a healthy diet can help the lungs to keep "young." But this does not mean that smokers eat points or additional points, as long as the vitamin can avoid the negative effects of smoking on health. Guenego said that, taking into account the risk of lung cancer and cardiovascular disease, smoking cessation is always the best option.



Carrots, sweet potato, melon, and spinach, cabbage and other green vegetables that contain antioxidants β-carotene. Scientists say, β-carotene may be able to fight free radicals lead to aging in order to protect non-smokers of lung function. They suggested that non-smokers and smokers should be in their daily diet intake sufficient amount of fruits and vegetables.
